Thought Criminal

The soviets called them ‘Penal Battalions’. They kept them in chains until they were just behind the front, The guard company would set up automatic weapons to their rear, 1 got a riffle, the next a handful of bullets. The charge was called and the guard company started encouraging movement with automatic fire in their backs.
They cleared minefields at a full charge and the survivors were rewarded by getting to charge again.
Thank Christ we aren’t the Soviets yet.

Another variation used by the Chinese at Chosin Reservoir. Those in the first wave of the assault were given Ak-47s. The second wave were sent in with instructions to pick up weapons from those fallen in the first wave. Oh, by the way…..it’s -20 degrees out in the battlefield.
