7/10/2020 Contest update (Contest YTD is calculated from 1/3/2020 close.) The news of a surge in Covid-19 cases was apparently masked from investors as well as our president, with the Nasdaq vaulting to a new record high. However, buyers of at least one Contest portfolio stock were feeling quite “BLU,” making for another week of underperformance by the Contest median. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 10.44% YTD (vs. up 14.89% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 17.72% YTD (vs. up 17.09% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 22.97% YTD (vs. up 21.01% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 17.70% YTD (vs. up 13.16% YTD a week ago). FILO’s portfolio, up 132.38% YTD, held on to the Contest lead, with JBOG’s portfolio, up 110.58% YTD, continuing in second place. But there’s a newcomer to third place, BIOSCI’s portfolio, up 52.74% YTD. At Friday's close, 28 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 19 still beating the NBI and 16 beating the SPSIBI. The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 23.81% and a YTD median gain of 2.23%. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.) Portfolio adjustments: None (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.) Enjoy a safe & fun July weekend biotechies! Peace & good health, Bulba
