Hand washing works. No one takes issue with that.

As to the other question, I’m tired of trying to explain it. Simplistically, so even you can understand it, there are different kinds of masks. If everyone wore what the surgeon wears, they really might help.

But covering your face with a piece of cloth taken from your sock drawer is a waste at best, and likely counterproductive.
