There is no doubt shutting down the economy slows the spread.

But the damage done by the economy being shut down is far worse than the virus.

Some people are freaking out in the county I'm in, about 500K population with a total of 500 actives cases. They have no grasp on reality. 1000 active cases could kill 50 people who are aged and feeble, but probably fewer. It could. Of course, these people might have died any way, because they were after all, feeble.

And the plain old flu could kill those same 50 in a few months.

But we cannot afford nice hospitals with expansive facilities, well-staffed, with great health care workers, all that -- if we don't have a functioning economy.

There is a trade off and I think we've done about all that can be done. IF we have to have masks to make people feel safer, then so be it.

What is intolerable is the notion of all these states demanding money from the federal government. The federal taxpayers have done what could be done. Now, if Newsom wants to stay shut down, that's on him.
