We let it get away from us. As long as there is free movement between the states, no state is safe to open up entirely. Infected carriers will just come in and start the process all over again. That is why the EU is keeping US people out. And why responsible people should be pissed at mask-deniers and aholes who proudly claim "Oh, its just the flu, snowflakes!" "Get some HCQ, Trump haters!" Bullshit. Just look at the graph that I just posted of what has happened over time in NY. The downward slope of that curve didn't happen by accident.
