Aren’t you omitting the Importance of the economic consequence from your calculus? That kills a lot of people, too, as well as the riots which served undoubtedly to spread the disease - these effects clearly are worse as a result of the long term lockdown.

No one ever suggested we would close the economy for months on end. Trump made the correct call on insisting on reopening, although it should have been done sooner.

The greatest missed opportunity has been the failure to use the treatment that works, consistently. It is stupid. But it is done.

The virus at this point looks like it is doing what it needs to do, which is to create a consistent blanket of immunity. It may take several waves but ultimately we will get there.
