Aren’t you omitting the Importance of the economic consequence from your calculus?

No, because the economy is dependent on getting the pandemic to a manageable level. With many/most types of problems, 'tis better to avoid them than to have to deal with their consequences, especially when you have not yet learned how to deal with the consequences, especially when the consequences expand exponentially. There's that old saw--an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

As for omitting, you have been focused on deaths to the point of there being no consequences short of death. But there are long-term economic consequences as well when you create a lot of handicaps that would not otherwise have occurred. I have no idea what the weight of that will be but it will not be nothing.
