Well, I suppose that's a fair point. But it does resonate with the public a seriously un-scientific finding.

My issue is that the science on well-person use of masks is not that good. Obviously, surgeons working in a controlled environment is one thing, but I think the entire area needs more research -- and there is no doubt it could be causing more harm than good. I don't claim to know, but the bungling I've seen out of CDC through this incident leaves me with little confidence they're better or different in some ways from the regular government bureaucracy -- with a lot of CYA and big money interests calling the shots.
