>> in the last month, versus what was happening back March And April when people clearly didn't know what they were doing.

This isn't true. I made a post to CJ on the other thread a few hours ago that explained to him how he was doing precisely what you are now accusing me (falsely) of doing. Obviously, I understand the difference.

As per that post, in the last the 50 days we've had 37K deaths in the US, and in the period from the beginning until 50 days ago, we had 100k. Half of those deaths were in those four states in the NE. The number of deaths in those four states in the last 50 days probably amounts to fewer than 10,000.

I'm not sure how you think that changes things: They still were, and are likely to be forever, the worst days of the pandemic, the world over. And you're right, they didn't know what they were doing. Trump gave them every single thing they asked for (plus some) and the disaster just got worse. It was insanity.

But just to be clear about it: In the last 50 days NY has had around 3k deaths. Since the inception, Texas (with around 50% greater population) has had 3,200 deaths since Day One. Of course, our population density is crammed into a few cities and there is a lot of blank space in the state.

It is important to keep in mind that when Didier released his study it was early April:

French microbiologist Didier Raoult on Friday released some early results from his treatment of 1061 coronavirus patients with a combination of hydroxychloroquine and the antibiotic azithromycin.

Raoult says the treatment had a good outcome in 91.7 percent of patients, a poor virological
outcome in 4.4 percent (viral shedding persistence at day 10) and a poor clinical outcome in 4.3 percent (either death or transfer to intensive care unit or hospitalization for 10 days or more).

He says 98 percent were eventually cured.

There were 5 deaths.

I cannot see any reason they weren't flooding NYC with HCQ and AZ (Zinc was also being discussed at that time, as it was intuitively a sensible thing to do). We knew they were harmless drugs, and already had some guidance on dosages. Seriously, doing so + not screwing up the nursing home situation would have radically altered the statistics for the entire country. And it isn't like they had some alternative treatment. Try giving them blueberries, but do something.

I recognize this is a problem with the US medical establishment, as well. And that physicians probably didn't sit around reading medical journals during that time. But when 10s of thousands are dying that ought to be a signal to a truck driver that he's doing the wrong thing and needs to make changes.

Sam, I don't mind being criticized. I post almost exclusively on boards where people differ with my posts, and I have done so for decades. I expect harsh criticism because I'm going places where people generally aren't going to agree with me (I was doing this same thing before there was a meaningful retail Internet, so it isn't new to me). I prefer to participate in places where there is disparity of opinion, most of the time.

But it helps if the criticism is honest. I get it, you tell me what you think. I'm just suggesting you try to think with clarity about allegations against me. It is fine if that's not your gig. But it makes for more constructive dialog.
