There is no question that some of the states that were initially hit hard by the coronavirus - particularly New York and New Jersey - made mistakes. Eventually, through a lot of trial and error, hey got it right. They also had to do it on their own, with limited resources and a federal government that was downplaying the risk.

You would hope that the states that were spared from the initial onslaught would have learned some lessons from the experience of New York and New Jersey and protected their citizens accordingly. Obviously, some of them did not.
