IF the Slot 1 (cacheless) is fully compatible with the regular Slot 1 then I think that Intel's motives could be upgrade-ability. Joe Bob Public could easily upgrade to a faster (higher margin) genuine Intel Processor if the current system does not offer the performance he desires.

Sounds like this could be a solid plan.
