My best friend suffered Crohns disease for several years. Thinking about it, diet seemed a likely cause because of the variation and age of onset and his broken neck semi paralysis and whatnot.

I decided that some microbe was doing the damage and that he could consume plant poisons which plants produce to protect themselves. The skin of plants such as carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and other normal foods us probably the right stuff. But maybe other plants such as turmeric do a good job too.

I had a conversation by chance at the top of mount maunganui with a couple who had turned out to be microbiologists. They thought more likely was the feeding of good bacteria by plant fibre. Food for thought.

His diet was poor so it made sense. But it was just guesswork.

But hey presto, I happened across a new actual scientific study which said that a fungus, Candida tropicalis, combined with e-coli causes a bioslime which thry think is causal of Crohns damage.

My friend died a couple of years ago not long after that came out. So I lost interest. He died from lung cancer.

From what I learned and figured out, I guess that eating lots of antifungal plant skins and leaves , and roots such as turmeric, ginger and other proven safe plants, along with fibrous food such as whole grain breads, rolled oats is the way to go.

That's in regardto Crohns. I have no idea if colitis is comparable.

But I'm not a doctor or official scientist, and do not have other than theory to suggest this.

Since it's just regular food I'm suggesting, it's not likely to be harmful. But biology is complex and allergies and gluten and whatnot can be a very big deal. So actual medical knowledge is a good idea. I'm not offering my normal double your money back guarantee on this medical advice even though you are not putting up any money.

You could find posts by me with a search on Candida tropicalis and Crohns. Google would have the scientific papers on it.
