Alighieri, nice to see you back in this cesspool of a thread.
There is considerable debate that herd immunity will work at all...some studies suggest that "immunity" only lasts a few weeks...
COVID-19 is a game of numbers. Even if immunity only lasts for a limited time, it certainly helps reduce the spread.

Of course we can't simply rely on herd immunity alone. That's borderline antivaxxer logic.

It really has to be a combination of everything. Immunity from those who already caught it, wearing masks, social distancing, etc.

Even when a vaccine is developed and distributed around the world, it's not going to be a guarantee. According to what I read, the minimum requirement for a vaccine is that it reduces the chance of getting the virus by 50%.

I'm NOT looking forward to the day when a vaccine is found and everyone starts cheering, only to figure out that even vaccinated people have a chance of getting COVID-19.

But even before that day, I'm not liking how Trump and other Republicans are in complete denial over the pandemic. If I were Dr. Fauci, I'd resign and just become a paid "thought leader."
