Must be baby time. Wonder how Alex is doing. Jeepers.
Once got to go to Hawaii at Christmas, and the road that goes from Honolulu up thru the canyon to the cliffs above Kailua has always been a favorite. We're cruising along slowly looking thru the beautiful warm sun at the trees and mountains, all relaxed and excited, just off the plane and back in familiar paradise again thank god. A little truck in the right lane is going really slowly ahead of us, with a pretty young couple in it, like 35 in a 55 mph zone. It's Christmas day and the road is almost empty, and the guy driving is spending more time looking across the seat than at the road. We're goin slow too, so we're behind em and I say to MJ, "They just had a baby and they're taking it home for the first time this afternoon."
We're following them for a while and we're both watching and now laughing because for some reason we're sure that's exactly what's happening. It was beautiful, very beautiful. He's just putting along, up over the hills home, and can't keep his eyes off them. He's grinning so big we can see him thru the back window. He's being real careful but he's totally oblivious to us or anything so it's good he's crawling along. It's four lanes, so we pass him just before the peak, and sure enough, mama has a little, little bundle. It felt so good. A perfect little moment in life. And heck, not a bad place to be incarnated, nor a toppable ride home thru the sunny trees and fresh warm air.
I like Hawaii. duh. |
