First Northern Hemisphere hurricane of the season is set to visit Hawaii And it's the 4th latest-in-the-year Pacific hurricane ever. (And it's named after me) Its lateness is a reflection of what is seen as the ENSO parameters are in the process of moving toward La Nina...which aids in the increase of tropical storm development in the Atlantic...where the number of tropical storms for the season is well ahead of average date of their development.

"The storm peaked as a Category 4 storm Friday, but began to weaken as the day progressed. Steady weakening is expected to continue for the next two days as the storm approaches Hawaii, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu.
When Douglas reaches the island chain on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, it will likely be a Category 1 hurricane or strong tropical storm, forecasters said."
