Back then, Latinos were called Spaniards. They did something to the New World; either discovered it, conquered it, civilized it, destroyed it, whatever. Differing political tribes have different outlooks. Then they conquered Mexico, raped a bunch of Aztec and Mayan women, and called themselves Mexicans. Then the French conquered them, and invented Latin Americans. Then Nixon conquered the US, and called them Hispanics. Then it turned out that Brazilians spoke Latin American, not Hispanic, and somebody said, "We're all Lationos now."
