Completion refers to putting in production equipment so that the well can produce and/or gas. The depth indicated is the depth below surface where the oil and gas will be coming from the so called "pay zone". Everything being equal the greater the width of the pay zone the better. A wider pay zone should indicate larger reserves of oil and/or gas. With today's technology they have a fair idea, but not exact where the prospective pay zones may be thus this well was drilled deeper than where the production is coming from. This is typical. 2000 feet deeper seems like a lot they could have also been looking for even deeper targets. A month seems like a long time to complete the well, I would normally expect 7 to 10 days. They have to wait for equipment. At this depth and wide pay zone the oil/gas may be under significant pressure. Hope this helps
