RE: External IDE Devices? I suppose you could hack something together pretty cheap, too. Just find an extender for the IDE cable and power cable and a box for the device. I have an "internal" CD-ROM and "internal" Zip that just sit on my desk. I just haven't taken the time to find mounting brackets to put them inside the case. Why wouldn't you just want an internal device? Switching between machines? If that's the case, you might consider the Zip Plus. It has a dual parallel/SCSI interface. If you're using it on a machine with a SCSI port, you get the speed. If you're using it on a machine without a SCSI port, you can use the parallel port. [ Sorry for recommending a non-SyQuest product here, but I would--and have--done the same thing on the Iomega thread.
