Fauci just testified about HCQ. I've wondered what his rationale is for his handling of the HCQ issue.

It turns out it boils down to one thing:

"Randomized, Placebo-controlled trials are the gold standard, and when I see that showing efficacy I will view things differently." Peer review seemed to be unimportant to him, but "placebo controlled" is essential in his view.

It seems harsh to me but I suppose he has his reasons. But when people come to the ER, are told "We have nothing to give you, come back when you're sicker", you may have to be less committed to placebo controlled trials.

In effect, any study that isn't placebo controlled is useless to him.

If it were my call I'd have done something more radical.
