well when humans went from a family structure where everyone worked their asses off and went to a tribal one where at some point there was enough food for spin off professions like shaman or medicine man or a combo usually an older man too weak and old to go on the hunt would take that role. The older women still helped with the children, cooking and near by gardens so the old man was the weakest link and became the shaman and that line continued. Social evolution
