It sort of depends - we won last time (popular vote) and the times before Obama (Bush, same mechanism)... and if Hitler Mark II were to win by a popular vote, I'm still going to not be a Nazi. There is a transcendent secular morality of not getting into other people's shit without a compelling and provable harm of not doing so. A lot of the RW "harms" seem to be vaporware - where their Invisible Friend (or personal preference) is triggered.
