Alienation is a powerful tool but much like whittling an object from a piece of wood, the more it is used - the smaller the group left "unalienated". Division leaves the original "whole" smaller and further divided from the whole. It is divided again by another dose of rhetoric. And again. What is left is a fraction of what one started with but they are hard core True Believers who align with the sum total of all the stupid and divisive talk that united them - they look less and less like their peers in color, politics, or beliefs. This fully divided and aligned component of support worries me most.
