I prefer to deal with the present and let the future work itself out.

I highly recommend a self-help book "The 7 habits of highly effective people". When I was employed I attended lots of classes and seminars intended to make me better at my job. This one was the one I most think about.

In the parlance of the lesson, you are conflating the Urgent with the Important.
