JAG, I read an article at least 6 months ago on this short position. Can't remember where though. The short position started in the high teens close to 20 a share. That's when the bond issue came out. If they got bought out lets say at 10 the shorts would still have big gains from the short sale and who ever buys them out would have to pay the debt off. Either way, the shorts make out. I don't see a buyout but more like a merger would make sense for S3. This industry needs to consolidate some way or another for any of these companies to make out.
