Having stood next to a QM-DI being run by an old timer in the industry and having asked him about scratches, he said two things. 1. The plates have gotten a lot better and we don't have near the problem as in the past. 2. The press has to be clean, very clean so that all of the previous silicon from the plates is gone and if that is done then there is not a scratching problem. This is from a guy running 346% max density. A lesser print quality could probably be achieved with less fuss but these guys were really sticklers for detail. You get what you pay for. He said the volume of printing jobs they run could not be achieved with any other system.
