My wife and I tried the other night to make a list of people we thought were worse off due to CV19. We came up with only a few people we personally know, that we are aware are worse off (including ourselves).
We have one friend who has worked largely part time as a care provider (she has some inheritance income, and only works to supplement that), but since she was self-employed, and the people she worked for wanted to isolate, she lost that income, and doesn't qualify for unemployment. All the assistance she has received was the $1200 stimulus check.
Most the people in our town who are self-employed are farmers, and the biggest impact they have is Trump's F'ing them on export markets. CV-19 hasn't helped there, but its hard to finger it as the major issue.
I've lost some income in a rental house, because the renters moved out, and I won't relist it until the Oregon State inspired rental eviction moratorium expires. I was delighted the renter chose to move when they did, (June) because they would have been a classic case to stop paying for the max the State allowed, then move out. But then one commercial property I own picked up a tenant. So I'm about even.
But all in all, I don't see much actual impact to people I know. Plenty of people bitch, but they almost all have the same or similar income. I know lots of retirees, and they are all better off, they have the same income, + the stimulus check.
So how many people do you know that actually are worse off? How many $T are we going to spend without bothering to figure out if its actually needed? |
