Re: How does one handle a stock that rises like an equity bottle rocket?

Here's my AAPL account as AIM has managed it since 2014. Recent times have had AIM and me chasing it upward with incremental selling. Cash is now 45% of the portfolio's total value. That cash holding represents about 1.5X the total value of the holding including cash back in 2014.

This has been a far more successful position than I had guessed back 6 years ago. AIM has helped me control my exuberance to a rational level. Return On Capital At Risk (ROCAR) has been excellent. ROCAR is the portfolio's total return divided by the average amount (in decimal value) of the holding that was invested over time. In this case AIM has turned in a total return of 263% since starting. That was accomplished with just an average "at risk" percentage of 66.75%. So, ROCAR for this holding calculates to be about 394%. That's still not as good as Mr. Buynhold but is respectable, just the same. (Buy/Hold has risen 500% over this period).

Deeper buy cycles never occurred so cash, in this case, has held performance back some. Still, since the December, 2018 low AAPL's stock has moved a tremendous amount. I'm not certain I would have stayed with it all this time without AIM's assistance in managing the risk of investing here. (this position is held in a retirement account, so no ongoing taxation has happened)

Best wishes,
OAG Tom
