I leased a 2013 Nissan Leaf several years ago. It had very limited range but it worked well for me as I had a farm and other vehicles. It was easy to get into for an older person and virtually maintenance free.

Now that I have sold the farm and moved back to civilization I bought a 2020 Chevy Bolt. I drive fewer miles because everything is close at hand, so most travel is at 35 mph. At those speeds 300 miles of range is doable, but not needed as I brought the charger I used for the Leaf and installed it in my house here in suburban Cleveland.

I considered a Tesla Model 3 and a Nissan Leaf. The Tesla was too expensive and Tesla did not discount and gave me much less for my Chevy Silverado trade-in. I rejected the Leaf because it has not active battery cooling which will shorten battery life.

The discount off of list price allowed me to get about $10K cheaper than a Tesla Model 3. The only real advantage the Tesla has is that it charges faster than a Bolt, so it is more useful for folks doing a lot of highway driving.

I also like the fact that the Bolt looks like 20 other models of hatchbacks from car brands sold in the U.S., so should crime become a problem with future economic instability, I will be happy to be somewhat invisible.
