The only reason the deal was anticipated to go through pretty easily was because DEC didn't have the resources to seriously challenge Intel's Pentium chip monopoly. Compaq has more resources so the Justice Department has to go back and see whether the Alpha could be a viable competitor under CPQ control. The article was pretty fairhanded in its presentation except for the eye-catching headline. OB
