Will there are 22 patents some of which directly apply to Aurora.
The best protection they have is they are following a plan that will unequivocally blaze the trial with FDA and will stand the test of the courts and frivolous litigation. The clinicals will build a lot of value into the product.
Then there are companies with MRI technology which is not dedicated and because Aurora was built to do breast imaging and nothing else it does it very well. Part of the design in Aurora is the Caprius patented innovative fat suppression algorithm which allows better visibility to the breast and you can see the rate of contrast agent absorption into a cyst very clearly.
The genius of the machine is that it will image a very limited volume
17cm each breast simultaneously and the chest wall.
It does this at a very high resolution because the control of magnet homogeneity which is patented...or patent pending..not sure. and also
the Rf Tx Rx fields are very focused and very small compared with a full body scanner, these are very close to the breasts...
So that is also innovative. But beyond that.. is its dedicated design... not an appendage to throw in there when the ocassion arises..if you know what I mean..
The concept behind the machine is that a technologist(operator) can easily be trained to run the standard protocol and is very repeatable.
of course the radiologist can then take control of Aurora and explore based on his/her knowledge... if performing pre-surgery decision mapping, exploratory scanning or biopsing.
Then the software is dedicated to mammography period, and it contains every leading edge scientist best methods. so its best protection is that it is dedicated to one mission. 0r say focused on this one mission right now. A good example of how scientists techniques live in the machine is besides the standard Caprius patented fat suppression, Caprius scientists are trying to implement Dc Harms patented famous Rodeo fat suppression techniques as well. These he made popular in very high field full body machines.. and Caprius should deliver a machine that perhaps incorporates similar techniques but at 1/3 the magnetic field strength. Also GE will buy them out in time and with their resources they can further fine tune the machines.. Mammography is a highly specialized field and when your scanner becomes the Judge so to speak. i.e. the CERTIFIED final authority on breast imaging.. then you need a dedicated scanner.. I personally don't think the me too machines will be a factor. For one thing the Aurora time will be lower in cost than say any 2 million dollar machine, and will deliver better performance because it is the only reason for its being.
In the future the Rf section should be Retrofitted to accomodate phased arrray antenna's that fit even closer to the breasts as in "Warren cups" configurations and can image down from the standard 1 mm to microns..sub milimiter or lessions one millionth of an inch. then the cancer screening field would APPROACH 99.99999% confidence which means the only cancer getting by undetected is the one you did not bother to Aurora scan... Our girls will have healthy breasts... and if they brush their teeth with fluouride they will get to keep those too.
