The contagiousness plus mortality and the hospitalization rate. I'm not sure you've noticed, but hospitals get over-crowded, and and the staff gets burned out, physically and emotionally.

Death destroys people's lives, as do some of the long term complications of covid. If we have the political will to keep people and businesses solvent (we sorta did, at the beginning), the lives of the living won't be destroyed.
Pre-existing conditions... most patients I saw die with flu and pneumonia had pre-existing conditions; COPD, asthma, heart, kidney, BP, diabetes, cancer, neurological/neuromuscular problems, post-op, immuno-suppressed, and obesity. Most of the people I saw leave the hospital had the same chronic problems. |
