In the 60s, "The Village" & much of Lower Manhattan was one of the coolest places in the world. Great music scene where I hung out & played with some top folk & blues musicians on weekends & vacations. Took semester off from Rutgers to work building art studios in late 1800s brownstone, former bank building.

Roy Lichtenstein was painting prolifically in already completed studio just below the penthouse. Had several extended conversations with him there as we walked around looking at his latest work. How was I able to do that? 1. He chaired Art Dept. @ Rutgers before demand for his paintings compelled him to do it full time. 2. He very much liked Grace Hartigan's work. She was my mother's 1st cousin.
