My point is that even when American companies have better goods, they still stand to lose b/c now there is a huge market that for political reasons will support the inferior goods. Those products will not remain inferior forever. Apple, for example, is not making phones in China because it is cost effective; they do it b/c presently nobody else is able to design and manufacture to their standard. Which is to say China has transformed itself from the low cost producer to the value added producer. There is no reason to believe this same process will not happen in other areas that they are being forced to enter. So in 5 - 10 years many American companies may find themselves in stiff competition with China where none would have existed if the Chinese were not forced to support upstarts with inferior products.
