100,000 Sets of Callaway Golf Big Bertha(R) X-12(TM) Irons Ordered Quickly After Introduction

CARLSBAD, Calif., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday, January 12, 1998,
Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) issued a press release announcing that its
new Big Bertha(R) X-12(TM) Irons had been developed and would be immediately
available for sale worldwide.
Today the company announced that it has received orders for more than one
hundred thousand sets of these new irons. More than 35 percent of these sales
are in markets outside the United States.
Of these orders to date, Callaway Golf has now delivered in excess of
30,000 sets including early shipments to foreign markets.
Bruce Parker, President of Callaway Golf Sales Company and responsible for
all U.S. domestic sales, stated, "We are very pleased, but not surprised, by
our customers' very positive reaction to these unique irons. This is the most
successful new product introduction activity we have ever experienced in terms
of quickly confirmed sales and early shipments. We feel fortunate and proud
of our ability to develop golf clubs which receive immediate acceptance by
U.S. golf club retailers. The ability to meet this demand in a timely manner
further supports Callaway's goal to better serve our customers."

The company believes that several of the Callaway Golf Staff Professionals
on five tours will be putting their Big Bertha(R) X-12(TM) Irons in play soon.
