One of my relatives bought an airline ticket from an online distributor to fly UAE to Switzerland to USA. She has a US tourist visa.

She went to the airport and they wouldn't let her board. They cancelled the ticket effective a day earlier for her, as they explained that would help her to get whatever refund she may be entitled to.

We think the reason she couldn't board is the US currently bans entry tourists who have been to Switzerland in the past 14 days. Maybe transit for one hour in Zurich triggers the ban? The explanation why she couldn't board is not clear.

The online agency says she can get a credit to fly the exact same route which the names on the ticket must use before Dec 2021.

She wants to come to the USA now. So waiting for the ban to lift is not an option.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how she might be able to get a refund, or reroute using the same ticket funds? Any suggestions are appreciated. It's actually two people at $1,000 per seat, so it's big money that is about to go poof.
