Part 13: White Protest Voices - Andy is Jewish. My Classmate and friend was also diabetic. As a child he went through metabolic h3ll and it was particularly awful starting in 4th grade.

If you don’t already know, as a pre-teen changes outwardly it is because inwardly the portion of kidney we call adrenal and supraphysial kidney is undergoing its maturation to form its third and final Zona layer. That Zona Fasciculata is where cholesterols are transformed into hormones including pre-sex hormones. The age of terrible two’s is when the second Zona is formed for cortisol metabolism, explaining why your child develops energy and mood swings.

Anyway, Andy would have these episodes of epilepsy and outbursts during school and it was scary and weird even knowing it was diabetes. But by age 14 Andy was cool. Smart. Talented. Still misunderstood and ostracized because of earlier years, though.

I spent an afternoon at his house across town waaay back when we were little kids and he had the biggest St.Bernard dog I’d ever seen and it drooled uncontrollably and so horribly it was hilarious. Puddles were everywhere in his house. But the house was really old, with real wood flooring and a giant staircase and really cool like my grandfather’s and I liked it. It was also across from a big park and great for outdoor fun.

We went to synagogue together with our Lutheran church school class and it was so normal feeling that I couldn’t understand that tribal hatred from history. Andy went through a Jews for Jesus phase in high school and joined our teen choir for a while. I haven’t seen him in decades. I see his name in news reports from time to time and wonder if it’s him or a namesake.

I took a Survey of Religions class in college and toyed for a minute with Judaism. I had read all the Tolkien books and the Old Testament was like the Ring but right out of real history and I loved it. I just could never get over the failure of any religion to separate State from Church. That applies to every other Faith except to the Protestant tradition, despite claims they make.

Loyalty is a tricky subject. Whom do you serve? It’s a tricky question. We The People claim to be non-sectarian. Are we really? Are we really living a distillation of all that is good from a survey of world religions? Oh gawd I wish that were true.

Isn’t that why the world sees us as that shining city on a hill? Isn’t that what their heart desires? Freedom from sectarian oppression? Rights that are universal and opportunity to apply effort and skill for personal and community gain?

We are at war against that enemy that hates our City on a Hill. We are at war against that enemy that hates our Declaration that We Know Better. They have come here to undermine and weaken our Lives, Families, Communities, Character and ultimately to destroy us just as an opportunistic disease does. Sedition.

Our world is going through episodic tantrums and fits that are shaking the human body. This is a maturation phase and it requires expert ‘Physicians’ to explain and care for the undeveloped patients. But political childhood is a political phase and the unmatured or immature are mobile and reckless and sometimes dangerous.

I recall how teachers would have to grab and hold Andy tightly to keep him from harming himself and others during his tantrums. He was a big kid for his age and a teacher sometimes had a real struggle to control him and get the needle injection of insulin done safely.

By age 14 Andy was cool. Smart. Talented. Still misunderstood and ostracized, because of earlier years, though.

We the People need to become assertive ‘physicians’ if the world is going to mature like Andy. Too often We have been assertive via war and hegemony. We need a kinder and gentler government of tough love. One that lasts beyond a single Presidential term. A real change that lasts in Washington. We need that kind of care like a physician provides that generates gratitude and understanding of our mutual humanness without being manipulative and abusive like those fraternity Men.

Doctor whom?

We need a school producing political leaders that are politically matured and free of that sectarian ambition. Kennedy failed. Fraternities failed. Britain failed.

We are at war against sectarianism in our politics. It is an old, old plan that has been forgotten so we thought it was ended. Rapprochement.

Wrong.
