I don't dispute that. Not for a minute.

But overstating what Trump said, claiming he said something in that moment that he did not actually say, is neither right nor smart. It's easy enough to substitute, say, "suggested," for "said." Claiming that he suggested it would be accurate and fair. Claiming that his overall posture supported that view would be reasonable. Saying that he said it, not so much.

One can't legitimately complain about the other guy lying when one lies, too.
