Alfred,

Sybase has had and still has substantial problems that will be next to impossible to resolve. They have been in trouble for at least 2 years with their stock falling from the 50's to single digits. Since they have not been profitable for quite some time, they have not had the financial resources to invest in developing state of the art products, at least not to the level of Oracle. Also, if you needed a DB, would you go to a company that is in financial difficulty not knowing whether they will be around for the next upgrade or for support? Oracle is a safer bet from the customers prespective. That's why they are losing market share, and believe their sales are weak in North American and elsewhere for that matter.
