"I'd be surprised if the total conversion you mentioned does happen. What is Intel going to do?"

Already concerned over Microsoft's weakened alliance with Intel, the chip maker shifts ever more resources toward developing the BeOS as a platform. Again, a new market with potential to sell.

MacWorld reported in November that Intel and Be developers found the BeOS to perform faster and more stable on Intel-based motherboards than it did on the PowerPC.

Once it catches on, there will be a rennaisance of software competition as the BeTel Alliance tries to bury Microsoft.

Apple will be stronger, but not the only PowerPC player as IBM, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard and Compaq shift gears to building PPC boxes for Microsofts new PowerWindows OS which uses some of the old Rhapsody code licensed from Apple in July 2001.

Is it wild conjecture? Could it happen? An industry conversion would trigger a massive, artificial need to upgrade or replace machines and software. Thousands of consultants will be hired to convert databases and files. Techies will reign superior for another generation!
