Alternative sources - certain blogs, some twitter accounts. Although I don't watch MSM, I see some of their content on the internet. Avoid those that are all spin, incessantly chanting the same narrative. Major aims include weeding out hypocrisy and group think - I want multiple viewpoints.. Sources I follow very often have links to important underlying documents. thereby allowing me to verify certain claims. "Mainly peaceful protest" with building ablaze in the background - yeah, right, next! Paraphrasing Jim Rogers, the commodities investor, if you get your stats from the government and your news from the daily papers, you will eventually go broke.
