In theory they may have to buy it back for them. It may depend if the buy is on margin or not. Do you really think CC and others follow any rules????? Also - lest we forget - a short sale can only be conducted on an up tick or an even sale where the last movement up or down was up. Do you think this is obeyed ( It may not be still in effect - I am not sure)
