Let's compare WINDS with POINTCAST

With Pointcast, you tell the program to PULL updated information once every hour, so it's triggered by your Client to their Server. With WINDS, the updated information gets PUSH'ed to your hard drive like a continuous real time Stock Quote/News System, which is triggered by their Server offering up the latest data to your Client. If you are not online at the time, the system will "re-sync" and bring you up to date once you're back online, and then will continue to PUSH new information as it becomes available. As to which approach is better, I suppose it's debatable. Currently I use PointCast and find the hourly updates to put quiet a burden on my machine especially if I'm in the middle of working on something else. Because of this I tend to specify the reception of less content updating in order to lessen the impact which adds to the age and narrows the information being offered. I suppose if Winds would "blow" smaller amounts of constantly updated data into my machine, I would feel less of an impact and request a broader range of content, and benefit further from it's timeliness. The additional benefit of Winds will be possibly felt by the assumption of getting that data stream over the PBS TV station sidebands rather than off the Internet when ISP access is not available; something PointCast cannot possibly do. I hope this helps...
