Michael Barnard Why did multiple boats sink at the Trump boat parade on Texas' Lake Travis? Because the Trump supporters ignored safety guidelines. Video shows many boats, some of them quite large, speeding around well in excess of guidance about speed limits and safety. The ‘organizers’ recommended 10 miles per hour as the limit, which is about 3 mph too high for 100 foot distancing, and the 10 mph guidance was widely ignored. The ‘organizers’ recommended a minimum 10 feet, much lower than empirical safety guidance for these types of events, and that guidance was also ignored. The result was a lot of small boats in very heavy wakes coming from multiple directions and swamping the small boats. Basically, idiots being idiots in a large group on a lake.
