Over the last 2 years I set up and loaded my NAS media system. It has been a very time consuming and now satisfying project.

Over the decades I have accumulated a large collection of music, videos, photos, E and audio books. Getting all of the DVD and VHS ripped to digital format and properly cataloging it is an ongoing challenge.

It is now altogether under the PLEX software has been a real joy. I can now access all of it from my phone, laptop, desktop, IPad anywhere in the world, I can get internet access.

I have 8 tb of space.

I am using a QNAP NAS system running 2 8tb mirroring drives in a QNAP enclosure. I highly recommend using a NAS and Plex software if this is something that interests you.

How to pick the right NAS for a Plex server Plex allows you to store pictures, movies, music and more on a single server, which can then be accessed by other devices. Here's what you need to know when choosing a good network attached storage (NAS).

I originally designed the system to have 2 8TB drives and mirror the data. But after a few months I decided that was over kill and reconfigured the system to just use the one drive and keep the extra drive as a spare for when the first drive begins to go bad.

I also have a 8 TB external drive which I use to back up the media and save it in another location for safety.
