What is wrong with ML?

Merrill Lynch frequently seems to issue turn on a dime recommendations -- frequently leaning toward the short side. Kurlak, around his semi calls is seen as particularly notorious. Many have complained that they do this to create and exploit volatility around their recommendations giving themselves and privileged clients good trading opportunities. The impact is often very short-lived though it can be very painful to be on the receiving end of these announcements.
While some swear by following in ML's wake on the short side, I think the more predictable play is to buy into any short term weakness that may emerge, picking up high-value companies during the mini-panic.
