As Mark Twain said, "The reports of my death are premature." The next 30 days will almost certainly see the long awaited coal core sample come out of the ground for analysis. At that point it will become possible to know if we are going to make a large sum of money or take a beating. However I do not think the odds are negative here. I would say there is at least an 80% chance of good news and the odds are probably higher than that. I agree with you that the dollar amount lately has been "chump change". I would expect to see supply dry up now. The most likely scenario over the next 30 days is a firming price, a successful core and negotiations with the majors. If they miss, everyone loses, but, at this point, I think positive thinking is more consistent with the odds. The bottom line in all these speculations is always what comes out of the ground.
