And to compound the problem as we get older, even if we spend time outdoors in the sun, we tend to cover up because we're also, after a lifetime of exposure, more susceptible to skin cancer.

I go in for cardiologist followups every 3 months since the heart attack. One time after checking one of my previous blood test results, I mentioned that I noticed my vitamin D level seemed to be down a bit. He looked at the current test results, this was in May, and said well not too much... Then he looked at the Feb results and said I should probably start taking a supplement. The winter tests show me considerable lower than the May tests. Now I take 2k per day April thru Sep and 5k a day Oct thru Mar.

Also seems reasonable but not yet proven that since D helps maintain good bone health that it may be a back handed prevention method for coronary artery disease. Moving Ca from the blood to the bones.
