Twister,
I am an aerospace engineer. I am writing this on a Sun Ultra 1. I have four desktops open. I am running Netscape on one, Interleaf on another, as well as a mainframe terminal window, several utilities (mail, phone list, file manager, several command tools), a proprietary analytical Fortran code, and Excel. All are open and active. Because I am not using much of the cpu, there is a CFD (computational fluid dynamics, intense number crunching) job from another user executing in background.
It has never crashed in the two years I have had it, and the only times I have re-booted have been to kill other people's jobs, which I could not get rid of otherwise.
An NT box will not do all of these things. An NT box is not a workstation, in my book. I've used NT, and it's no UNIX ;)
