OT--Andy, I'll answer your e-mail's questions on the Optra S here so Jeff and others can chime in too.

Unlike Jeff, I only do several hundred pages a month, but am certain you'd have no problem with your proposed 5-6K. It's rated at at least 35K monthly, as I recall.

I haven't tried "empty toner" detection, as I have yet to deplete my first 7K cartidge, but the excellent Markvision control software gives a readout of roughly how much toner is left at any given time--and I'm certain there's some provision for it. If Jeff or no others know, I can try and look it up for you.

I have not owned an HP 4, 5, or 4000, but the testimonials I have heard have been from good to mixed. The 4000 is the first line that seems competitive with the Optras. While it may be a more recent release than the Optra, I'm not sure that's a good thing. I'd rather have Lexmark's second pass at 1200 dpi technology.

Good luck with your decision!

Dave
