The SyJet is a SCSI drive. Syquest just includes a Parallel-to-SCSI converter (plus drivers) in the "parallel port version". Since the converters add only about (my guess) $5-$15 (in volume) to the product cost, I suspect Syquest decided it was easier to market the product at one price.

It appears from your post that you have not owned/used the EPP SyJet. I'll refrain from commenting on the new Zip Plus (I haven't tried one yet), but my recollection of the original Zip drive [used them for a week about a year ago] is that they used the same technology as the SyJet's to do the EPP-SCSI interfacing.
